NormaLu Meehan's formal training began with two-and-a-half years in high school, continuing at Parson's School of Design in Manhattan. The South Bend Art Museum provided further polishing in life and portrait classes these studies combined, enabling me to work in advertising for local and Chicago apparel shops. After working for decades as an artist and an art director, I turned my creative efforts to paper dolls for collectors, specializing in historic costume and working with museums and universities.
My paper dolls have been published by Hobby House Press and Texas Tech University Press; and I am now happily "at home" with Paper Studio Press, and have accumulated over 25 titles. My work has been featured in doll magazines such as DOLL NEWS. I also have created a personal series from the women of Downton Abbey.
The late-in-life career switch has afforded me to become fast friends with many of the illustrators whose work I have admired throughout my professional lifetime, and the list of them keeps growing.
