This program, a First Place Winner in UFDC's ReAL Services' Audio/Visual Contest, was described by the review committee as "this is something you would expect to see on PBS." The program presents a comprehensive biography of famed American novelist Frances Parkinson Keyes. It weaves the story of how the Dixie Doll came about and offers the viewer information about the dolls Frances, a pivotal person in early organized doll collecting, played with as a child, collected as an adult, wrote about, and inspired.
Laurie McGill is a long-time member of UFDC. She served as Region 3 Director, Associate Editor of DOLL NEWS, Editor of DOLL NEWS, and as a nine-year member of the UFDC Doll Museum's Collections Oversight Committee. She has authored several articles for DOLL NEWS, edited the 2013 souvenir journal for the "A Capital Affair" convention when it was held in Washington DC. She has chaired several special exhibits for UFDC conventions, presented seminars on a variety of topics, and she joins Elizabeth Ann Coleman at this coming summer's convention in New Orleans where they will co-present a program about The Dixie Doll and the two women who brought her to life—Helen Siebold Walter and Frances Parkinson Keyes. Laurie is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Antique DOLL Collector magazine.
