Tragic Story of Velvalee Dickinson

Date:  Saturday, May 30, 2026
Time:  11:00 am ET
ZOOM GATHERING

Presented by:
Kathy Gregg and Beth Morris Nance

Description:
The tragic story of a doll spy named Velvalee Dickinson comes alive in this video. After researching Velvalee's interesting life, Kathy and Beth used dolls from the North Carolina Museum of Dolls, Toys and Miniatures in Spencer, North Carolina to make the story come alive. Thanks to videographer Jim Ryser, the story is well photographed and exciting as we learn more about why a prominent doll dealer in the 1940s would turn her life upside down by spying on her own country.

Kathy will reveal some of the behind-the-scenes stories that no one has heard about filming the video. Join us as we learn more about the Doll Spy's affiliation with the United Federation of Doll Clubs and Mary Lewis.

Kathy GreggKathy Gregg is a long-time doll collector and member of UFDC. For the last 14 years, she has been a volunteer at the North Carolina Museum of Dolls, Toys and Miniatures in Spencer, North Carolina, where she currently serves as vice chair of the Board.

Kathy became interested in Velvalee Dickinson after reading a biography of her and decided to create a video using dolls from the Museum. Thanks to the Museum and Jim Ryser, another friend of the museum for assisting with the creation of the video. She is happy to share doll information with any like-minded collector.

Beth Morris NanceBeth Morris Nance is the cofounder and executive director of the North Carolina Museum of Dolls, toys, and Miniatures in Spencer, North Carolina. The Museum was started in 2012 in memory of Amy Dawn Morris, Sister of Beth, who tragically passed away before her 22nd birthday. Amy was a doll collector, and the museum began with many of Amy's possessions that were treasured memories of her childhood. Since the museum opened, Beth has been the driving force to create a destination where people can enjoy a vast variety of dolls, 20+ doll houses with amazing miniatures inside and toys from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Beth is a featured speaker at many doll events around the country and is knowledgeable about a wide variety of Doll And Toy related topics.
